What Should I Do If The Hot Water Bottle Is Scalded At Low Temperature?

When the weather gets cold, many people put a hot water bottle in their bed when they sleep. After a deep sleep, because the skin is not sensitive to temperature, it "sticks" to the hot water bottle for a long time and does not change position. After waking up, blisters are found. Zhang Jue introduced that such a burn is a "low temperature burn".
According to experts, people who are scalded by low temperature are generally those who sleep more at night or those who feel sluggish. Low-temperature scald does not appear to be serious on the surface, and the blisters that appear on the scald start not to hurt, but it is actually a "third-degree scald", which is more difficult to recover than an acute scald. If the electric hot water bottle is not handled properly, it will fester, and some will not heal for a long time.
Why can a hot water bottle scald if it is not hot to the touch? Experts explained that long-term exposure to a heat source of 40 ℃ - 50 ℃ may lead to low temperature burns. If you touch the temperature of 70℃ for one minute, the skin may be scalded; when the skin is in contact with the temperature of nearly 60℃ for more than five minutes, it may also cause burns. That is, the higher the temperature and the longer the duration, the more severe the burn. In addition to hot water bottles, hand warmers, electric blankets, and fan heaters, they can all cause low-temperature burns.
Experts remind: some people should use hot water bottles with caution
Since the beginning of winter, many people are accustomed to using a hot water bottle to keep warm at night, especially the elderly, women and children. What should I do in the event of a "low temperature burn"? According to Zhang Jue, first wash the scalded area with a cool towel or cold water to achieve the purpose of cooling, and then seek medical attention in time. Never use soy sauce or toothpaste to smear the scalded area, which may easily cause infection of the scalded area.
Experts remind that when using a hot water bottle for heating, be sure to tighten the cover, and cover the hot water bottle with a protective cover to prevent the water from flowing out and scalding. Note that the water temperature should not be too hot, the time should not be too long, and the hot water bottle should be placed 10 cm next to the feet. Put it in the quilt before going to bed and take it out at bedtime. Elderly people who suffer from diabetes or stroke sequelae and who are bedridden for a long time should use it with caution.
